Receiving & Delivering the Gospel in Meekness

The mystery ingredient

That which makes everything next-level.

Let’s do the opposite first:

How to shut someone down (non-meekness)

  1. Express strong opinions about many things, often.

  1. Aim to cut the speaker right in the center of their sentence. Chop swiftly before they complete the thought. Do not allow their …

  1. Degrade and down-talk most decisions. Doubt their decision-making ability. Assume the worst about their motives while processing that decision.

  1. Boldly lead. Courageously confront any perceived opposition with maximum force of words. Lead in a style such that people hesitate to breathe or think around you.

  1. Forget empathy. Did I ask for your feelings? Then don’t talk.

  1. Be natural. Whatever your heart wants. Just puke it out. Flesh nature.

What is the opposite of these actions? Meekness.

Meekness sees a child eye-to-eye. Feeling and resonating with their soul in strong, spiritual empathy. Gets on their level and frequency.

Meekness seeks the heart and face of God in handling tough situations.

Meekness allows a speaker to finish their thought and averts needless contention.

Meekness wants to believe the best is possible; that people can grow.

Meekness leads humbly while striving to please God singularly.

The Spirit of Meekness is not vulgar or verbally abusive, but is the opposite: even uplifting, pure, …

Meekness is only listed 14 times in Scripture, likely the least-emphasized trait of the Spirit. Barely making it onto the top 9 fruits listed in Galatians.

What does Scripture [God’s heart] reveal about meekness?

Numbers 12:3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)

What did Moses do to resolve quarrels among the 2.5 million people he led?

Isa 61:1a

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me; because the LORD hath anointed Me to preach good tidings unto the meek; …

According to this verse, who got to hear the good news of the gospel first?

“Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart:”

Who is this verse speaking of? How can I be more like Him?

“Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought His judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD'S anger.” Zeph 2:3.

Write one sentence here in response, expressing what the spirit within you is hearing when receiving this verse:

“What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness?” I Cor 4:21.

What does that sound like?

2 Cor 10:1 “Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, … “

Write your reply here:

Gal 6:1 “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness;”

How can I best help others?

Eph 4:2 “With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

Sounds different than normal. How so?

Who or what is ONE of the “cousins” of meekness? Who does he hang out with? :)

Col 3:12 “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”

Hmmmm. Makes me think.

Titus 3:2

“To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.”

Maybe I should …

James 1:21

'“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.”

Possibly then, meekness is essential to …

James 3:13

“Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation [known pattern of life actions] his works with meekness of wisdom.”

Sounds like …

I Peter 3:15+

“But sanctify [intentionally set as ready on purpose] the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you [& give that answer] with meekness and fear [due reverence]: having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation [pattern of habits] in Christ.”

Makes me think about …
